Evening Shade

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donna Sue Spurlock, a beloved educator whose life was a testament to the power of kindness, patience, and a genuine love for making a difference in every life she encountered. “Mrs. Taylor”, a cherished member of the Evening Shade education system for 3 decades, touched countless young lives with her unwavering dedication and determination to make each student successful. She was more than just a teacher; she was a mentor, a friend and a priceless support system for her students and colleagues. Mrs. Taylor, as she was known by most, always made learning an adventure and had a knack for finding the unique strengths in each student, always encouraging them to reach their full potential, throughout their lives. Her impact extended far beyond the walls of the classroom in her community. She loved attending school functions and ballgames throughout the years, especially when her grandkids and nieces and nephews were playing. She enjoyed community festivals and was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ. But mostly, she loved her family, friends and the people she met along the way in life and in the beautiful place called “Evening Shade”.

Donna Sue, also referred to as mom and granny, the beloved matriarch of the Taylor family passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025 at the age 88 in her home. A true pillar of strength and compassion, she leaves behind a legacy full of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Born on May 17th, 1936 in Ash Flat, Donna Sue was known for her warm spirit, her big hugs and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. One of 9 children, she learned toughness at an early age and enjoyed a close relationship with her siblings throughout her life. She withdrew from high school to start a family and relocated to California but vowed to not give up on her dream of furthering her education. While raising 4 small children, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in education from Fresno State in 1967. She achieved this accomplishment while commuting 50 miles one-way to attend college. She went on to earn Her Master’s in education from Arkansas State University in 1981 continuing to show the importance of education to her family and students. Her home was always a haven for family and friends, filled with the smell of her delicious cooking and sound of joyous gatherings. Her four children, 8 grandchildren, and 20 great-grand children were blessed to have many wonderful years with her. She was a constant example of a humble, yet confident woman with a servant heart for all that knew her and spent her lifetime working to build a legacy that will live on for many years to come.

She is survived by two daughters Sherry Clark and Sandra Taylor and one son Stanley Taylor (Lavonna).
