Paul Wesley “Big Toe” Johnson, age 86 of Cave City died Sunday, January 17, 2021 at his home. He was born August 28, 1934 in the city limits of Cave City, where he lived his entire life. He was the son of Edward Daniel and Mattie Alice Cole Johnson.
He was a 1953 graduate of Cave City School, receiving an athletic scholarship to Beebe Junior College (ASU Beebe) and later received a BSE Degree from State Teachers College (UCA Conway, AR) after serving and returning from being drafted into the U.S. Army.
He was a coach and teacher at Beedeville and Cave City before opening his own business in 1966, Johnson’s Restaurant Equipment and Supply on Main Street in Cave City, with many loyal friends and customers. He was one of the last and oldest successful businessmen, of his era, on Main Street in Cave City.
His nickname “Big Toe” stayed with him his entire life, starting in elementary school, with many not knowing his real name.
He was member of First United Methodist Church in Cave City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lula Landers Glenn, Betty Ruth Laman and Eloise Davail and four brothers, Charles Neal Johnson, Guy Johnson, Bly Johnson and Caesar Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Montgomery Johnson; son, Mark Wesley Johnson (Shan) of Cave City; daughter, Paula Beth Meacham (Ed) of Sherman, Texas; sister, Eddie Lee Mills of Cicero, Indiana; grandchildren, Dustin Johnson (Jennifer), Jeremy Johnson, Zack Fleetwood and Brayden Fleetwood all of Cave City and Allee Meacham Hays (Scott) of McKinney, Texas; great grandchildren, Raelyn Dawn Johnson, Bailee Jo Miller and Warner Fleetwood all of Cave City and Hudson Scott Hays of McKinney, Texas; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A private memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Rev. John Mark Moore and Terrie Roark officiating Burial will follow in the Cave City Cemetery.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Dustin and Jeremy Johnson, Chris and O.J. Laman, Blain and Dwain Roark, Jr., Dustin and Cory Baker.
