Robert Wayne Owens of Cave City, Arkansas passed away after a brief illness at the Baxter Regional Hospital in Mountain Home on October 30, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.
Robert was born on May 20, 1940 to Mary Catherine Jones and Robert Clyde (RC) Owens in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from Sylvan Hills High School in 1958, he served in the United States Navy.
Robert was married to his wife Callie Sanders Owens of Stephens, Georgia in 1959 and they would go on to have two children, Robert, Jr. (Bob) and Penny.
Robert retired in 1990 following many dedicated years at Western Electric/Lucent Technologies in West Palm Beach, FL.
Robert and Callie enjoyed their time in retirement and embarked on several journeys as they spent years on their farm in Stephens, Georgia raising Black Angus cattle; then enjoying their sailboat and lobster fishing on the coast of Surry, Maine; followed by a short stint in their fifth wheel home in Sebastian, FL where “Captain Bob” enjoyed giving scenic tours on the River Queen boat at Captain Hiram’s until they finally settled in Cave City, Arkansas in 2009 after falling in love with the area upon a visit to see his brother.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Callie Owens; his son Bob (Barbara) Owens; and daughter Penny (Joe) Blackburn; grandchildren, Kristin, Michael, Tyler, Brandon, Erica and Trevor; and his 11 great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Kirby, Grice, Mason, Luke, Lucy, Anthony, Bella, Alex, Anabelle and Owen. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty (Darrell) Roberts and Larry (Nyiece) Owens as well as many other family members and friends that loved him dearly.
At Robert’s request no memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, you can honor Robert’s memory by making a donation to the Humane Society of Independence County in Batesville or an animal shelter of your choice and voting red on November 8th.
Whether you knew him as Robert, Bob, Wayne, Daddy, Grandpa or Gramps he will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a man who spoke his mind and loved his family dearly. As he shared in a recent post: “Love is really all that matters because everyone comes into this world with nothing other than love and leaves with nothing other than love. Think about it. Profession, career, bank account, our goods are just tools, nothing more. Everything stays here. So just love. Love those that really love you. Love as if there was nothing more important in your life.”
Arrangements are by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
