Robert Paul Taylor

July 12, 1951 — March 26, 2025

Smithville

Robert Paul Taylor, born on July 12, 1951, departed this life on March 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy as a steadfast patriot of the United States. A man of forthright demeanor and unwavering conviction, he held a deep reverence for his country and profound respect for its soldiers, despite never having served in the armed forces himself.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debra Gail Taylor; his son, James Robert Taylor; his father, Robert Harold Taylor; and his sister, Barbara Jean Taylor. He is survived by his mother, Roberta Jo Taylor; his daughter, Amanda (Jay) Smith; his sister, Beverly (Mark) Feder; and his brother, Mike (Paula) Taylor; stepchildren, Niki Dawn (David) Robinson, Kenneth “Ruckus” (Shanna) Davis; and grandsons Austin Windom, Jason Smith, Anderson Taylor, Axley Davis, and Brec Davis; granddaughters Autumn Ball, Kera Lawrence, and Baleigh Burchfield; and six great-grandchildren.

Rob began his career with Union Pacific Railroad right out of high school, dedicating himself to the trade until his retirement in 2011. His colleagues and hunting companions, a tight-knit group of railroad workers and outdoorsmen, held him in high esteem for his stoic presence and sharp wit. A devoted advocate of the Second Amendment, he valued the freedoms it enshrined, believing strongly in individual liberty while cherishing his own.

An exceptional woodworker, Robert possessed a rare talent for crafting anything his mind envisioned. He found solace and strength in the outdoors, a sanctuary where he could reflect and recharge. His love for his children was fierce and unwavering, a bond that defined much of his life. Though outwardly gruff and affectionately known to his grandchildren as Grandpa Grump, he harbored a deep affection for his family and friends that was expressed through actions rather than words. His sarcastic humor endeared him to all who knew him.

Robert Paul Taylor will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community.
