Sandra Kay Mann passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at her home. She was born September 19, 1945 in Little Rock, Arkansas to W.T. and Charlene (McDuffee) Mann.
Sandy graduated as Salutatorian of the Class of 1963 at Desha High School. She played professional basketball with The All American Redheads and the Southern Belles from November 1963 to May 1971.
In 1974, Sandra became one of the first two EMT’s in Independence County. She worked in the emergency room at White River Medical Center with the ambulance service for several years.
Sandra was the first female Deputy Sheriff in Independence County, holding this position from 1983-1992. Her law enforcement career also included the White County Sheriff’s Office from 1995-1997.
Sandy was loved and respected by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Sandra is survived by two brothers, Terry Mann of Locust Grove, Arkansas and Bill Mann of West Bend, Iowa; one niece, Crystal Coker and her two sons, Austin and Braxton of Roby, Texas; one aunt, Willene Bray of Mount Pleasant, Arkansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 29, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Paul Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Justin Saffell, Bill Lindsey, Curtis Goodrich, Gene Hargrave, Joey Bray and Greg Wolverton.
Honorary pallbearers are Vital Link Personnel, Independence County and White County Sheriff’s Office Employees and the All American Redheads Women’s Professional Basketball Players.
