Vera Mae Anderson, 85, of Cave City, Arkansas met Jesus Christ face to face on Wednesday morning, November 20th, 2019, surrounded by her family and her pastor.
She was born Friday, November 24th, 1933 on the family farm in Shelbyville, near Cave City, to her parents, Elvie James and Annie Motes-Foster Cooper.
Vera grew up in the Shelbyville-Grange area, attending school and the Baptist church there in her early years. She later attended Cave City High School, graduating in 1950.
She met Elmo Anderson at the church; they married in 1952 and welcomed a son, David Elmo, a few years later. They joined First Baptist Church Cave City in 1956, after returning home from Elmo’s U.S. Army service, and have been faithful members since, working with youth groups and serving in other areas.
Vera was a bookkeeper, homemaker, caretaker, a selflessly devoted wife and mother, a librarian, a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and most of all a follower of Jesus Christ. That was the most important title to her. She loved her family, her friends, her church, and her community of Cave City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Arvus Foster of Illinois, a sister, Emma Foster-Joyner of Louisiana, and her beloved husband Elmo. She is survived by her sister, Argie Foster Sullivan of Calamine, son David Anderson (Amy Beth) of Batesville, her granddaughter Joanna Appleget (Tim) of Batesville, and her grandson Jonas Anderson (Jessica) of Cave City. Also surviving are grandchildren Chad Conder (Jan), Shawn Conder (Ashley), and Sara Beth Brackett (Justin) all of the Batesville area. Finally, her great-grand children, whom she absolutely adored: Julian and Jasper Anderson, Nixon Appleget, Gus and Laney Brackett, and Noah, Olivia, and Callie Conder.
Her life and legacy will be celebrated at First Baptist Church on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 with a visitation at 9:30 am, followed by a service at 10:30 with her pastor, Ron Canard, officiating. Burial will be next to her husband in the Fairview Cemetery east of Cave City. Arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers will be Jonas Anderson, Tim Appleget, Shawn Conder, Chad Conder, Dwain Roark Jr. and Eric Richardson.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of her Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
If you want to honor her, make Jesus, family, and friends your priority. Treat others the way you’d like to be treated. Trust God for the rest.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the youth fund of First Missionary Baptist Church, Cave City, in memory of Elmo and Vera Mae Anderson.
